Loving using the acrylics with the water-mixable oils, its great!! Also haven't gone near such earthy colours for along while, I'm enjoying it. I love big contrasts and lighting effects.

This first one reminds me of running along the edge at Mawgan Porth, in Cornwall, looking out West. I love the way the colours stand out differently when you're by the sea. Its as if you can feel the colour as well as see it - that is what inspires me in a painting. The portrayal of the experience of a place. The colours aren't what you'd see in a photograph, but they're somehow more real.

Good working day today!
Used my new water mixable oils that I'd bought from Jenny Oldknow - some lovely earthy colours that ended up guiding the subject. Mixed them with acrylics and did most of the work with rags. I've had some nice hefty 50cm square canvases with frames ready that have been sitting waiting for a couple months now.
Speedy visit to artist Jenny Oldknow last week and I've come home with much oil paint and a sheet of odd paper. Its plastic - but it holds the paint, even watercolour, in an intriguing way. Had a go and came up with this:
I'd like to try being a bit more experimental with my next try though - ended up piling on the paint (acrylic).
So, having done my bit of writing work for the day, I'm off to get painting for the rest of the afternoon. Its freezing - must light fire.
